In a recent JobsInTheUS.com poll, 78% of participants said they've updated their resume within the last five months, with nearly 1/5 of the group stating that they've updated their resume within the past week of taking the survey. Another 22% haven't updated their resume this year, however, and of those, 14% said it's been two years or more since they took a stab at it.
Why is it important to have an updated resume on hand?
- Preparation is key. You never know when a great job opportunity will come along.
- Tardiness works against you. Employers are inundated with resumes today and the earliest resumes get the most consideration.
- The economy is still uncertain and today's jobs - namely yours - may not be here tomorrow.
So, even if you're not currently looking for a job, it's always a good time to make sure your resume is up to date. Take time every day to jot a few things down and make some updates. It can only help your career.
